Science and Technology
so you just made a pc
This video was actually really interesting to me. I'm kind of really aware of what I waste in electricity, and almost any other bill or resource. Knowing this kinda hurts that I'm using a 850W PSU, for a system that draws no more than 300W.
Great to know this LTT. Thanks!
Just got a 9900k only to find new dx12 and vulcan games make my cpu run at 5 to 13% load... some call it optimizing i call is poor optimisation. Its a waste of gpu resources as long as the cpu isnt a bottleneck. So even a 6 core may be irrelevant in the future unless devs back of dx12 and vulcan and use my gpu power for fps rather then things the cpu can do aswell. Dx11 runs better for a reason i guess.
So I may not be understanding this properly, but does that mean they would theoretically only need like a 200w psu for that build?
No offense but aren't the 1000 series videocards more efficient on 1080p in comparison with the 2000 series? Sure it probably isn't watt wise, but it would have been an interesting look.
This is way too scripted
Interesting. I have 7700K and I dropped it to 0.9975V merely at cost of turbo and locking CPU to 4.0GHz, but I haven't tried RAM voltages as my main reason for undervolting was temperatures rather than power consumption. Too bad it didn't change much since GPU pukes heat into the case resulting in same temperatures as without undervolting... :(
Hey the moment u get a beastly Pc u are resigning urself to the fact that it will draw a ton of electricity
This is very very interesting! Saving power is quite interesting. If you had a secondary part of the video were some are explained in detailed a few stuff (like the bios part which I have no understanding) that would be excellent.
I'm in 2019 gaming on an AMD fx 8320
the big guy seems to have alot of knowledge.
just move to somewhere that uses a cleaner source of energy to produce electricity
Faster than a console. CPU is the price of an Xbox one s. You f***** up one to many times Linus.
Anthony: "Here's my sponsor"
Linus: "So you have chosen death"
I´m very glad I found a seasonic Gold power supply a year ago. Very Stable and cold. The quality is impressive.
This is great for a PC that is supposed to have a very high uptime.
And here I am with my 580 crashing every single game for undervolting
god damn it.
I did manage to find configs for certain games that would make it stay at 75°C under load. Consider we're currently at 34°C on hottest days, and it's not even full summer yet, could be worse. Also, case is... generic garbage. But from 82+°C default config, to 75 is quite a considerable amount.
Problem is I can't really know if it crashes just because of the voltage on certain games, or the lower frequency or the more aggressive fan curve.
its really not that hard to build a PC more efficient than a console. consoles these days suck.
Eh, where I live it's pretty much entirely hydro, so whatever.
if PCs are better than consoles, why are people always trying to make console killer PCs
Did you say there was a link in the description to mod a founders card with an Evga bios so you could stop the fans? 'cause I don't see it....
power supplies don't suck up power. They provide power to components that suck up power. They are the middle man. #PowerSupplyJustice lol
Did anyone do the maths on how many hours gaming it'd take before having a lower power consumption would favour the pricier investment?
I use a community choice aggregation program that generates solar electricity for my area funnels it into PG&E's grid and assigns that energy (on paper at least) to my home.
This means that I can pretend I'm not part of the problem while using a computer tricked out with a massive amount of RGB and fans but at least I use a platinum rated psu ... that's a asus thor.
I'm sorry but you guys are idiots. Why not just buy a gaming laptop if you're so worried about efficiency?
I could fall asleep to Anthony's voice, man.
What was the total cost?
According to the be quiet wattage calculator my new system is currently only running at 275w.
Where as my old system used 341w assuming it's somewhat accurate. So a 20% decrease in consumption seemed like a win.
Anthony -- Flashs card with an EVGA BIOS to set fan curve to 0
Me -- Just un-plug the power cable for the fan.......
I mean you know it seems that thermals and noise were worse on a 5700 blower style vs 2060 founder with 2 fans (what a surprise)
@ 3x the price...........not a win.
"Here's how you could build an environmentally conscious pc, now back to our regular programming of ZOMG MEGABAJILLION GIGAFLIPS X ULTRA SUPER PCS!!!!"
...learn better or kill himself. lol
>video about efficient computing
>no 2600e
next: solid state PC
2:19 T-Series
Damn good job. That thing draws about half the Watts my laptop uses! (i5 9300 + 1660Ti Max Q) which is pretty impressive considering they perform about the same gaming wise!
*Of course RGB keyboard is must* 😪
This video is like the presentation of the best students in the class.
30w @ idle is kinda terrible.
Hey I have that case!
I'm glad Anthony is getting a bigger role in LTT, the first time i remember seeing him is a video where your server was down, and I honestly really like his personality, I hope y'all keep him in the videos!
Geothermal: "am i a joke to you"
no u
My God, will you shut that stupid, annoying, corporate advertising-style background music off? It's giving me a headache
9:55 speaking of power consumption , my oldie LG E2241 still consumes 25 Watts of power
Linus - "So, even a PC can run more efficiently than consoles.."
Console Gamer - "Don't worry guys, at least we still have the best value!"
Linus - "Up next cheapest gaming PC build!"
Console Gamer - "ffs"
The meme is so dead that I had to think for a moment what meme are they talking about.
Anthony is that dude.
He's my favorite LTT rep
